Description
The Coventry Carol is a popular Christmas song and is here in a setting in the style of William Byrd, a 16th century British composer. "The Coventry Carol" was the number four carol judged by a distinguished panel for the BBC Music Magazine of the greatest Christmas carols ever. For flexible woodwind duets.

In two parts:

Part 1 – in C (high), in C (low), in Bb (high), in Bb (low), in Eb, in C (Bass Clef)
Part 2 – in C, in Bb, in Eb, in F (English Horn), in C (Bass Clef)

Set by John Gibson for flexible woodwind duet, they may be played in many different combinations by mixing and matching parts and instruments. For example, two flutes could play parts 1 (C-high) and 2, or an oboe and flute could play parts 1 (C-low) and 2.

The high and low versions of part 1 could be used depending on instrument range or the combination. For a clarinet and bassoon combination you might want to use low part 1 for the clarinet and the Bass Clef part 2 for bassoon. The players could even have the bass clef instrument take the 1st part if they wished. Although there may be crossing of parts, as long as one keeps the melodic line in mind, the music should be gratifying for both the performers and their listeners.

Please feel free to use whatever combination works for you…..and not just woodwinds, either!

Have fun playing!
